A 27-year-old man died late last week in a car accident on I-95. According to one news report, a truck driver was driving down I-95 when a wheel from his truck came loose. The wheel then bounced over the highway median and crashed into the windshield of the victim’s car. The ensuing damage from the wheel, compounded with the shattered glass, caused massive damage. The victim was taken to a hospital in St. Augustine, Florida, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead. There was a passenger in the victim’s car, but he only suffered minor injuries. Additionally, debris from the car hit another driver, but that driver and the driver of the truck were not injured. At this point, the car accident is still being investigated by Florida Highway Patrol. Complexity of Truck Accidents in Florida All accidents can be terrifying and complicated, but truck accidents can be particularly so because they often result in the greatest amount of damage, and trucking agencies follow a complex set of regulations that are not always easy to navigate. Truck accidents frequently cause serious injuries and damage to people and property because of the magnitude of the vehicles. When a truck driver collides with an automobile, it is likely that the driver of the car will suffer serious injuries. Furthermore, when a truck collides with another truck, the accident can cause an explosion or damage to surrounding people and cars. Unlike a two-car collision, a truck accident often involves several other cars and more victims. This can result in various lawsuits and liable parties and agencies. Although many people are somewhat familiar with insurance rules and regulations, when a truck is involved this can be more complicated than a normal two-car accident. Truck drivers and their companies frequently carry a different type of insurance than what many people are used to. Insurance companies can be frustrating to deal with, so it is crucial to contact an attorney to adequately deal with these entities. Truck drivers are also controlled by federal regulations. In addition to the basic rules of the road that every driver is supposed to abide by, there is another set of rules that applies to truckers. The regulations involve what steps truckers are supposed to take to ensure that their trucks are in proper working order. It is important to be well versed in these rules so that commercial drivers are held liable for any deviation from the regulations.
