Work History

Legal career began at the Williams Parker Harrison Dietz & Getzen law firm in Sarasota, Florida in 1970. Practiced law in Gainesville, Florida and also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Florida, College of Law from 1972 to 1975. Began business career at Townley Manufacturing Company in Candler, Florida, as Vice President of Operations from 1975 to 1979. Continued business career at the headquarters of Kysor Industrial Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange listed company as Vice President-General Counsel. While at Kysor also served as President of Dexter Lock Company, a Kysor subsidiary with 500 employees. Returned to Ocala in 1983 to serve as President of Townley Manufacturing Company. Returned to the practice of law in Ocala and founded Dean & Dean, P.A. in 1988. Formed with other members of family, Daystar Farms, Inc. in 1992, an Angus cattle operation, and Pro Poly of America, Inc. in 1996, a fire truck component manufacturer. Served as Sheriff of Marion County, Florida, November 1998 to January, 2013. Manager and owner of Daystar Professionals Group, LLC, 2013 to present. Serving as volunteer Interim Executive Director of Marion County Hospital District since June, 2013.
